ORLANDO, Fla. - Floridant -- FAMU Law Christian Legal Society (CLS) hosted their Elevator Pitch Event, like speed dating, allowing students a minute to impress legal professionals and get feedback. Several students accomplished over 20 of these "micro interviews."
Inspired by her undergraduate experiences, Eyesenia Reyes initiated this innovative event. Under the guidance of Professor Ann Marie Cavazos and with unwavering support from the CLS Board, the event broadened its reach, collaborated with the American Civil Liberties Union, Federal Bar Association, Hispanic American Law Students Association, Marshall Bell Law Society, Phi Alpha Delta, and Real Property, Probate, and Trust Law Society. Notably, FAMU welcomed student participation from Barry Law.
The CLS club advisor for the Christian Legal Society, Professor Ann Marie Cavazos, commented, "The spirit of collaboration and support among our student groups and the legal profession has been inspiring. Remember, we're not just shaping legal careers but also weaving compassion, faith, and service into the fabric of the legal profession."
Student Feedback:
Claiming the first-place position, Ashley Chico of Barry Law highlighted her approach, "Act with the knowledge and confidence that you possess the power to affect the trajectory of your future while standing firm in your beliefs and convictions . . . diligent preparation fills in where talent may fail. Therefore, have confidence in your work and practice today for where you would like to be present tomorrow."

Ron Giscombe III, a FAMU Law participant, stated, "The elevator pitch is far beyond meeting and greeting with different faces. It is the practice of looking inward and refining one's personal skill in becoming more personable, breaking comfort zones and being most effective with conveying important information in a limited window of time. I recommend this to any aspiring professional!"
Krista Garcia, the second-place winner from FAMU Law, emphasized, "The event was an amazing and unique opportunity to network and get feedback on how you present yourself, which in this profession is so important! I had great critiques from the professionals who attended, and I feel much more confident about going into interviews now."
Kaylah Clark, the third-place winner from FAMU Law and a first-year student, reflected, "As a first-year student, the Elevator Pitch Competition was a great way for me to step out of my comfort zone and network with some amazing lawyers in the field! The atmosphere was encouraging and helped boost my confidence. I am always grateful for the opportunity to learn and sharpen my skills."
Professional Feedback:
Attorney Benjamin Kaufman from Morgan & Morgan stated, "Participating in FAMU Law's Fall '23 Elevator Pitch Event was particularly rewarding. It brought together legal professionals and future lawyers in an environment that fostered personal growth and networking opportunities. I saw many new faces and several familiar ones. As a recent FAMU Law alumni (class of '22), I highly recommend attending future iterations of this event. Whether you are a 1L or a 10-year attorney, no one leaves empty-handed."

The generous donations and contributions from Professor Ann Marie Cavazos, Attorney JJ Dahl of Dahl Family Law Group, Attorney Tim Schulte of Zimmerman Kiser & Sutcliffe, Attorney Edward Reyes of The Reyes Firm, and Director of Law Student Ministries, National Christian Legal Society Chapter, Anton Sorkin, were instrumental in elevating the event's impact and success
