Nourishing the Inner Life Through Stories of Meaning, Courage, Truth, Hope, Goodness, and Moral Imagination
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Floridant -- There is a reason human beings have told stories for thousands of years.
Stories do more than entertain us. They nurture the inner life, awaken imagination, shape character, and offer a quiet space in which we can listen inwardly.
In storytelling, there is often a golden thread - a teaching about courage, goodness, perseverance, compassion, empathy and many other virtues. The story may take us through fear, hardship, uncertainty, and struggle, but there is hope for resolution. The good can prevail, no matter how convoluted the in-between may seem.
For children and adults alike, these images can live within us long after the story has ended. Characters who persevere, find courage, or discover a way through difficulty offer images we can carry into our own lives.
From an anthroposophic perspective, imagination has an even deeper significance. It is not an escape from reality; it can become a bridge to the spiritual dimensions of life. Through meaningful images, stories, beauty, and moral imagination, we can nurture our relationship to something greater than the immediately outer visible.

This matters especially in times of trials, when answers are not readily available. A story that carries images of courage, goodness, and transformation can give the soul something to hold onto. Storytelling can become like meditation: a time to step away from the noise of the outer world and realign ourselves with a higher good.
Perhaps this is why stories are passed from one generation to another - carrying wisdom, nourishing the inner life, and keeping alive what matters most.
We are delighted to welcome Elaine Charles, lifelong storyteller, retired public-school arts educator, and our Meditative Drumming Hour lead, for an evening of storytelling. One story Elaine shared, Lady Edelweiss, was created by her grandfather and carries a profound message, handed down through generations.
Join us for an evening to slow down, listen, imagine, and remember that the inner life needs nourishment, too.
