FORT MYERS, Fla. - Floridant -- SalusCare has added Sofia Adams as the nonprofit's new director of acute care services, a division that provides emergency services for adults and children in Southwest Florida who are experiencing a mental health crisis or substance use disorder.
In her new position, Adams directs clinical, operational and administrative functions for SalusCare's acute care services, which include a crisis stabilization unit and detoxification unit that provide 24/7 medical and psychiatric treatments. SalusCare offers both inpatient and outpatient services.
Adams rejoined SalusCare after spending more than a decade with HCA Healthcare. As executive program director of psychiatry within HCA's behavioral health unit, she led teams of more than 140 staff and supported initiatives focused on improving patient outcomes, patient experiences and staff engagement. Adams previously was SalusCare's assistant vice president of acute psychiatry, a role she held for nearly five years.
Over her 31-year career, Adams also served the community through roles at Ruth Cooper Center, The Salvation Army and Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute, focusing her leadership experience on inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care, electroconvulsive therapy and psychiatric residency education.
