A Grassroots Call for Communities to Have a Voice in America's AI Future

The development of large and mega AI data centers can require significant amounts of land, electricity, water, roads, transmission infrastructure and other community resources.
For many communities, this conversation is about more than technology. It is about resources, local businesses, residents and the future of the community itself.
This Is Not an Anti-AI Movement
The Grass Roots initiative is not opposed to artificial intelligence or technological advancement. AI will be an important part of America's future, and communities should have the opportunity to participate in and benefit from that future.
The question is simple:

Before major infrastructure decisions are made, communities should have an opportunity to ask important questions:
- How much electricity and water will be required?
- What land and infrastructure will be needed?
- What could increased demand mean for residents and businesses?
- What are the potential costs and benefits?
- What jobs and economic opportunities could result?
- Are there alternatives that could reduce resource demands?
- Can AI infrastructure be developed in ways that better fit local needs?
These are community questions.
