MIAMI - Floridant -- Local advanced manufacturing firm, 3DChimera has been chosen to compete in two categories for the inaugural Advanced Manufacturing Olympics 2020, hosted by the U.S. Air Force's Rapid Sustainment Office. Participants include universities, defense contractors, technology start-ups, and additive manufacturing companies in five categories, with cash prizes starting at $40,000. Advanced manufacturing consists of 3D printing, 3D scanning, and computer-aided-design software technologies.
3DChimera is competing in two categories, the TDP Relay and Approval Sprints. The TDP Relay challenges teams to recreate a 3D printed part from an existing Technical Data Package (TDP) while demonstrating accuracy, skill and completeness. Approval Sprints, challenges teams to apply innovative methods to accelerate Government approval timelines by identifying creative qualification strategies for new materials, machines, and components. 3DChimera is the only competitor from Florida in these two competition categories.

"This competition plays to our firm's strengths" said CEO Alex Hussain. "We are all engineers by training and have spent nearly a decade acquiring deep technical expertise in advanced manufacturing, from the design, software, 3D printers, to materials. The fact that the U.S. Air Force is investing in this competition confirms our thinking - that advanced manufacturing is best used to solve complex and intricate problems where traditional manufacturing methods may not be well suited."
The Advanced Manufacturing Olympics will announce winners during a four-day virtual event, held October 20-23, 2020. Registration is open on their website (http://www.afrso.com/advanced-manufacturing-olympics) and is free to attend. The event's stated goal is to translate innovative ideas into enduring solutions and will feature cutting-edge speakers, virtual peer networking, and more.
