75-year-old author and Vietnam veteran Bruce Goldwell shares practical strategies for reducing everyday expenses, discovering overlooked savings, and enjoying retirement without breaking the budget.
SAINT PETERSBURG, Fla. - Floridant -- With rising prices putting pressure on retirement budgets, author Bruce Goldwell has released The Smart Senior's Guide to Living on a Fixed Income, a practical guide designed to help older Americans stretch their money, reduce expenses, and maintain their independence.
Unlike many financial books that focus on preparing for retirement, Goldwell's new book addresses a different question: What can seniors do when they're already retired and need to make the most of the income they have today?
At 75, Goldwell knows the challenge firsthand. A Vietnam veteran and author of hundreds of books, he lives on a fixed income himself.

"Living on a fixed income doesn't mean living a limited life," says Goldwell. "Sometimes improving your financial situation starts with something as simple as questioning a monthly bill, asking for a discount, or recognizing an expense you no longer need."
The 25-chapter book explores everyday financial challenges facing seniors, including grocery costs, utilities, transportation, healthcare expenses, debt, financial scams, and unexpected bills.
It also introduces readers to one of Goldwell's favorite money-saving habits: asking before paying.
A simple question such as "Do you offer a senior or veteran discount?" may uncover savings that customers otherwise miss.
Beyond reducing expenses, the book explores ways seniors can use their knowledge, skills, and experience to create additional income opportunities. It also emphasizes that retirement should include enjoyment, meaningful activities, friendships, and personal fulfillment.

One of the book's practical features is the Smart Senior's 30-Day Money Makeover, designed to help readers turn financial information into manageable daily actions.
Readers can also access a free companion Smart Senior Money Toolkit featuring worksheets, checklists, and savings trackers through the book's website.
Goldwell hopes the book will encourage seniors to share their own discoveries and practical solutions.
"Some of the best money-saving ideas come from people who are living through the same challenges," Goldwell explains. "If one senior discovers a way to save money, sharing that information could help hundreds of others."
