At age 75, Vietnam veteran and independent author Bruce Goldwell continues his publishing mission after a heart attack and quadruple bypass surgery, reaching 550 published books in October 2026.
ORLANDO, Fla. - Floridant -- A heart attack and quadruple bypass surgery might cause most people to put their projects on hold. For 75-year-old independent author Bruce Goldwell, the experience became another chapter in a remarkable publishing journey.
In October 2026, Goldwell suffered a heart attack and underwent open-heart surgery. While hospitalized and preparing for the operation, he was already considering a new book about surviving a heart attack and helping readers better understand prevention.
"I don't have time for dying. I'm on a mission from God," Goldwell told his daughter during the experience.
Despite the unexpected medical emergency, his independent publishing catalog reached 550 books by the end of October.

A Vietnam veteran and Bronze Star recipient, Goldwell has lived a life spanning military service, architectural drafting, carpentry, computer programming, teaching, and entrepreneurship. He also experienced nearly a decade of homelessness, a period that strengthened his personal commitment to helping others.
His books cover a wide range of subjects, including artificial intelligence, personal development, science fiction, spirituality, senior living, travel, and practical financial education.
Recent titles include SI – Super Intelligence, Polymath, The Smart Senior's Guide to AI, and The Smart Senior's Guide to Living on a Fixed Income.
Goldwell has also created Senior Vet Discounts, a free resource encouraging veterans and seniors to ask about available discounts before making purchases.
During his hospital recovery, Goldwell began documenting his experiences through conversations and voice transcription, laying the groundwork for a possible book combining his personal heart attack story with researched heart health information.
