FORT MYERS, Fla. - Floridant -- Generous shoppers at Walmart and Sam's Club stores across Southwest Florida joined Harry Chapin Food Bank's mission to end hunger across the region.
Throughout March, local Walmart and Sam's Club locations participated in "Fight Hunger. Spark Change," a national campaign to support Feeding America. Harry Chapin Food Bank, Southwest Florida's largest hunger-relief organization, is the region's only Feeding America partner food bank.
Walmart and Sam's Club customers could round up their purchases at the register or online to make a donation to hunger-relief organizations. Additionally, Walmart and Sam's Club made donations ranging from 10 cents to 50 cents for specific purchases of brands like Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Kellogg's, Unilever and two dozen other suppliers.
Customer and company contributions support Harry Chapin Food Bank, which relies on a Feeding Network of more than 175 agency partners to serve over 250,000 neighbors monthly.
"To many people, it's just spare change, but to our neighbors experiencing hunger, those coins represent their next meal," said Richard LeBer, president and CEO of Harry Chapin Food Bank. "The Fight Hunger campaign demonstrates the magnitude of our collective support. Walmart and Sam's Club recognize that one of the solutions to our region's hunger crisis can be found at the bottom of our pockets."
