Tansy Moon with Engel & Völkers First Coast Represents Buyer in Purchase of 10-Foot-Wide Home in Jacksonville Beach
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Floridant -- Engel & Völkers Florida today announced the sale of 1952 Horn Street, known by the moniker "Skinny House." Tansy Moon, an advisor with Engel & Völkers First Coast represented the buyer in their $619,000 purchase. Ryan Wetherhold with Oceanside Real Estate held the listing.
"This 'Skinny House' epitomized the spirit of coastal living, offering a blend of innovation, functionality, and style," said Moon. "Its unique design and prime location made it an extraordinary find for my buyers who were seeking something truly special."
Former owner and builder John Atkins initially planned to make the house 15 feet wide, but building codes required the home to have 7.5 feet of space on either side of the property line. When he and his real estate agent, Wetherhold, tried to get the rule changed, residents of the high-end neighborhood pushed back, wanting the plot to remain open.

"I think everyone in the city has seen the famous "Skinny House" all over social media, the news and even Zillow Gone Wild," said Corey Hasting, Broker/Owner of Engel & Völkers First Coast. "Love or hate it, the sale price of this unique home highlights the strong demand for distinctive properties in the Jacksonville Beach area and signifies a robust market for creative and luxurious living spaces and it's really cool to have our brokerage attached to a property which such national attention."
Nestled in Jacksonville Beach, FL, the "Skinny House" stands on a 3,484 square foot lot. Despite neighbor protests, the home's dimensions were ingeniously reduced to 10 feet, resulting in a space that exceeded expectations. At 1,547 square feet, the home's price per square foot is a relatively reasonable $400, making it a compelling choice in the current market. The expansive yard features a patio, second-floor balcony, and one-car garage. Inside, the residence exudes elegance with nine-foot-high ceilings on the ground floor and vaulted ceilings reaching up to 10 feet. It also includes a built-in dining table made from reclaimed wood from a local pier destroyed by Hurricane Matthew in 2016.
