FORT MYERS, Fla. - Floridant -- The 8th annual Tommy Bohanon Foundation Playmakers Tailgate Party recently raised $278,000 to support student-athletes. Over 250 people took part in the fundraising event on April 30 at The Ranch Concert Hall & Saloon.
The festive evening featured food, drinks, raffles and live music, along with a comedy show by R.C. Smith and a speech from Tommy Bohanon, former NFL fullback and president of the Tommy Bohanon Foundation.
Trista Timm, a senior at Estero High School, was the 2026 Tommy Bohanon Foundation youth scholarship winner. She was awarded a $10,000 scholarship and will attend the University of Florida in the fall to study biology. Timm is the captain of the girls' varsity soccer team, president of Interact Club, vice president of National Honor Society and will graduate with an AICE Diploma with distinction. She's planning a career in medical research.
Mary and Bill Schaible were honored with the Most Valuable Playmakers Award in recognition of their decade-long commitment to the foundation. As parents of Katie Bohanon, the Schaibles have played an integral role in every event since the organization's inception almost 10 years ago. They have generously opened their home, shared their resources and supported the foundation through their time, dedication and financial contributions.

"It is our absolute honor to recognize Mary and Bill," said Tommy Bohanon. "They're not just supporters, but they're the heart behind so much of what we do."
Longtime champions of the foundation, Mary and Mark Thomas, were awarded Team Players of the Year for their ongoing support of the foundation's mission and stepping in at a moment's notice to keep things moving forward.
"Because of people like Mary and Mark, we're able to keep showing up for the kids and families we serve," said Tommy Bohanon. "Their support has played a meaningful role in helping us reach our goals and continue growing this foundation."
The Tommy Bohanon Foundation serves children and adolescents ranging from ages five to 18 and develops high school athletes into future leaders in our community through volunteer and scholarship opportunities.
