FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., April 2, 2024 ~ As the debate over a nationwide ban on TikTok continues to rage on in Washington, a different conversation is taking place within the app's community. While some lawmakers are pushing for a ban due to concerns over national security, others are focusing on the financial content creators on the popular app.

Debt.com, a leading financial advice website, has announced their second annual FinTok Awards. These awards aim to recognize and highlight the best financial content creators on TikTok who provide practical and trustworthy guidance to their followers.

"The FinTok Awards shines a spotlight on the valuable contributions of creators who empower users with trustworthy financial guidance in an increasingly digital world," says Don Silvestri, President of Debt.com. "Unlike many other award programs, there are no fees associated with being nominated. Our award program is solely talent and knowledge based."

Last year's winner, Markia Brown from @theMoneyPlug, shared her thoughts on receiving the award. "Winning the award from a well-known and respected organization such as Debt.com showed me and the world that my dedication to providing accessible credit literacy content makes a difference," she said. "It also proved that accurate and accessible financial literacy content can be found online."

Brown also mentioned how winning the award inspired her to expand her knowledge beyond credit education and earn her Accredited Financial Counselor designation through the Association for Financial Counseling & Planning Education®.

The public is now invited to cast their votes for their favorite creators in each category. These categories include Best Personal Finance Education, Best Financial Education for Under 30, Best Credit Education, Best Hispanic-Focused Money Information, and Best Debt Payoff Information.

Some of this year's nominees include Michela Allocca (@breakyourbudget), Neelima Pradhan (@learnwithneelima), Ashley (@ashallaboutmoney), Kassandra Brambila (@kassandrabrambila), and Allison Baggerly (@inspiredbudget).

The winners of the Debt.com FinTok 2024 Awards will receive an official award and have a feature story and video posted on Debt.com. The contest is now open, and winners will be announced at the end of April in honor of Financial Literacy Month.

With over 4.5 billion views, the #FinTok community on TikTok has become a popular outlet for financial advice. However, there is also a dark side to this subset of the app, as it can contain misleading information that could potentially harm individuals financially or legally. The FinTok Awards aim to help filter through this noise and recognize creators who provide practical and actionable financial guidance.

So, if you have a favorite TikTok financial creator, be sure to cast your vote at https://www.debt.com/fintok-awards-2024. Let's shine a spotlight on these talented individuals who are making a difference in the world of credit literacy.
