Keynote by National Veteran Suicide Prevention Leader Frank Larkin to Spotlight the Link Between Brain Injury and Mental Illness
TAMPA, Fla. - Floridant -- The Mac Parkman Foundation is set to host the 2nd Annual International Summit on Repetitive Brain Trauma on September 3–4, 2025, at the state-of-the-art Green Beret Association Team House in Tampa, Florida.
This year's theme, "Bridging Worlds, Building Solutions: From Invisible Impacts to Visible Change," brings international attention to the invisible yet devastating injuries caused by Repeated Head Impacts (RHI) in sports and Repeated Blast Exposure (RBE) in military service. These traumatic exposures are now strongly linked to long-term mental illness, including depression, aggression, and suicide.
Frank Larkin, former U.S. Senate Sergeant at Arms and tireless advocate for veteran suicide prevention, will serve as the keynote speaker. Larkin brings a deeply personal perspective, having lost his Navy SEAL son to suicide following undiagnosed brain trauma sustained during service. His message of urgency and hope will anchor the summit's mission: to prevent future tragedies by advancing understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of brain trauma.

"We can't afford to wait until tragedy strikes to act," said Bruce Parkman, Founder of The Mac Parkman Foundation. "This Summit is about saving lives—our kids, our athletes, our veterans—by bringing the best science, the strongest voices, and the clearest solutions together in one place."
Following the groundbreaking success of the inaugural summit in 2024, this year's event expands to include world-renowned researchers, clinicians, pro athletes, veterans, and policymakers. Through keynote addresses, expert panels, and collaborative workshops, the summit will explore:
- The latest research on RHI and RBE
- Advances in early detection and treatment
- Youth sports safety and informed consent
- Military and veteran care innovations
- Public policy and insurance reform
The event is open to the public, and local community members, students, and medical professionals are strongly encouraged to attend. Special sponsorship opportunities are available for businesses, nonprofit organizations, and industry leaders committed to protecting the brain health of Florida's children, athletes, and veterans.
