GAINESVILLE, Fla., Sept. 12, 2024 ~ A recent survey conducted by DatingAdvice.com has shed light on the prevalence of sexual kinks, fetishes, and fantasies among individuals in the United States. The survey, which polled 500 people, aimed to normalize conversations surrounding these topics as they pertain to dating and relationships.
According to the results, nearly half of the respondents (50%) admitted to having some sort of sexual kink, fetish, or fantasy. This means that for those entering the dating world, there is a high chance of encountering a potential partner with their own unique desires.
Dr. Wendy Walsh, known as "America's Relationship Expert" at DatingAdvice.com, emphasized the importance of discussing sexual fantasies with partners. "It's completely normal to have sexual fantasies," she stated. "For most people, an orgasm begins with a movie in our minds. Sometimes, if it is emotionally safe to do so, sharing sexual fantasies can even strengthen a relationship by enhancing intimacy."

However, it is worth noting that while many people have edgy sexual fantasies, not everyone has a desire to act them out in real life. Sharing a fantasy does not necessarily mean wanting to act on it.
The survey also revealed that more than 44% of respondents have shared their kinks or fetishes with their romantic partners. Additionally, 61% reported that their partner had shared a desire with them. These results indicate a growing acceptance and openness towards discussing these topics in relationships.
Despite this progress, there is still a stigma surrounding sharing sexual desires. Over 47% of respondents admitted to never expressing their kinks or fetishes to anyone.
However, for those who do share their desires with their partners, the majority (56%) felt fully supported by them. Furthermore, almost half of these partners were open to exploring these desires together. This highlights the importance of open communication and dialogue in building strong and genuine connections in relationships.

When it comes to timing for sharing these desires, the survey found that almost 40% of respondents planned to express their kinks or fetishes within the first 12 months of dating. On the other hand, some preferred to wait until they had been with their partner for at least two years.
