Christian EDM/Electric Gospel recording artist Skerrit Bwoy has teamed up with Palm Beach Atlantic University and Florida Memorial University to establish $25,000 in scholarships for aspiring students pursuing careers in religious studies
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - Floridant -- Born Dale Richardson in Antigua, Richardson immigrated to New York at the age of nine. Inspired by his father and uncle, both successful local DJs, he pursued a career as a DJ and entertainer. Skerrit Bwoy was the catalyst for some of the craziest dancehall reggae parties ever held in the Bronx, New York. He was soon recruited by the music producer Diplo to join the EDM powerhouse Major Lazer as their hype man. As part of one of the world's biggest acts, Skerrit Bwoy made quite a scene with his high-energy performances alongside the Major Lazer family (Diplo, Switch, and Jillionaire). Yet, despite international success, Richardson felt that there was more to life and embraced the teachings of Jesus Christ, which he finds "extremely fulfilling."
Determined to use music as a tool for evangelism, Skerrit Bwoy released his critically acclaimed Jesus Party trilogy, which achieved modest commercial success, charting #1 on Apple Music's iTunes Electronic Music rankings, earning global radio airplay, and leading to a Jesus Party Dance Challenge on TikTok. Richardson hopes to take lessons learned from his previous album to propel his next Jesus Party album to the Billboard charts this Fall.

Beyond music, Skerrit Bwoy is currently pursuing a Master of Divinity at Nazarene Theological Seminary. Recently, after a performance in Florida, he was approached by Palm Beach Atlantic University to help inspire young people to enroll in their degree programs. Honored by the request, he eagerly joined the initiative.
Richardson states, "Last semester, during a church planting class, I learned that pastors are retiring faster than new seminarians are emerging," says Richardson. The world will soon face a shortage of well-equipped Christian leaders. I want to help change that by empowering the next generation to pick up the baton, run the race with excellence, and save some money along the way. When Palm Beach Atlantic outlined the framework for The Master of Divinity, with a Concentration in Black Church Studies, I thought of the Bible verse: 'Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.' (2 Timothy 2:15 KJV).
The Master of Divinity Program, with a Concentration in Black Church Studies is a collaboration between FMU and PBA. Florida Memorial University is the only HBCU College in South Florida, and Palm Beach Atlantic University offers the only university-based, ATS-accredited MDiv in the region. "I'm a massive fan of when Christianity thinks outside the box and tries to reach new people in new ways. I believe this program is going to be one of the best in the nation" says Richardson.
