ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Floridant -- A newly formed group named St. Johns Recovery Coalition is planning the launch of a Community Listening Symposium that will take place on Saturday, March 18, 2023, between 10:00 am-2:00 pm at Flagler College's Ringhaver Student Center in the Virginia Room, 50 Sevilla Street, St. Augustine, Fla.
"Recovery is a reality for over 23 million Americans," said Ginny LaRue, the St. Johns Recovery Coalition Chairperson, "We want to facilitate a discussion about building stronger cultures of recovery in our communities, act to reduce stigma and remove barriers for those in need of recovery," Ginny added. Ginny LaRue, MNM is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of LaRue Consulting, LLC, an organization with the mission to assist organizations with wellness and sustainability while supporting the organization's mission of service.
The goal of the event is to collect information from families and individuals in St Johns County that will shape the mission of a nonprofit group of people trained and ready to help people seeking wellness. The organization will join a growing number of Recovery Community Organizations (RCOs) in Florida that have the support of state and federal advocacy agencies involved in combating the overdose epidemic. An RCO is an independent, non-profit organization led and governed by representatives of local communities of recovery. The groups conducts ongoing local recovery support needs assessment surveys or focus groups, provides peer recovery support services (PRSS), organizes recovery-focused policy and advocacy activities and much more.

The Listening Symposium will showcase multiple pathways to recovery to increase awareness of supports available while fostering inclusion. It will offer opportunities for individuals to create long lasting connections within the community and include national speakers on recovery, vendors, door prizes and more. Registration is free but required, and anyone from the community is invited to attend.
There are Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze level sponsorships for the event available. Sponsors for the event to date include; Flagler OARS (Open Arms Recovery Systems), LSF Health Systems, and the State of Florida, Department of Children and Families. Sponsorship dollars will assist in the planning and advertising of the event and all additional funds will go back into the Recovery Community Organization (RCO) development in St. Johns County.
St. Johns Recovery Coalition is a group of change agents with a passion and interest in improving the communities of St. Johns and Flagler Counties, where they live and work.
