WINTER PARK, Fla. - Floridant -- Emmy® winning Director and Producer, Nick Nanton, has joined with DNA Films® and Abundance Studios™ to produce a new documentary feature on the life story of legendary basketball personality, Dick Vitale.
The as yet to be titled film is set to begin principal photography in late 2020 in South Florida where Vitale lives today. In addition to sharing Vitale's meteoric rise from a junior high coach to leading the NBA's Detroit Pistons in just nine years, the film will also include life lessons from Dick who grew up bullied after losing his sight in one eye.
"There is no one better suited to tell my life story than Nick Nanton and the DNA Films crew. I am excited to share my story with the world," said Vitale.

Filming will include interviews with former players and coaches from Vitale's early coaching days in guiding East Rutherford High School in New Jersey to two consecutive state championships. Interviews will also feature stories from Vitale's days as an assistant coach at Rutgers University in the 1970s, where his recruiting success helped the Scarlet Knights go to the Final 4 in 1976.
We then will share interviews with players and people who were part of Vitale's life while at the University of Detroit where he led the Titans to the greatest year in the history of the school during the 1976-77 season. The documentary will include his short stay with the Detroit Pistons in the NBA and then follow his 40+ years at ESPN where he has become a household name. This film will show the journey that led Vitale to be inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame as well as the National Broadcasting Hall of Fame.
