WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Floridant -- (West Palm Beach, FL – March 14, 2025) The League of Women Voters of Palm Beach County (LWVPBC) was one of only three local chapters honored this week by the statewide organization, the League of Women Voters of Florida. The award for "creating an innovative way for candidates and government officials to meet citizens" was announced on March 11 at the nonprofit, nonpartisan group's annual Lobby Days Gala in Tallahassee.
One of the five largest local League chapters in the country, LWVPBC was honored for its successful networking event ELECTION EXPO 2024. It was held in Lake Worth last September, bringing together more than 250 voters and 37 different candidates—both Democratic and Republican—along with Palm Beach County's Supervisor of Elections Wendy Sartory Link. The Expo was co-hosted by the local League, Leadership Palm Beach County, and Palm Beach State College.

At the informative pre-election event, student volunteers demonstrated the use of the League's signature "Voter Guide" for citizens to easily get nonpartisan information about the various political candidates and ballot questions. A video produced by LWVPBC entitled "Why I Vote" was shown featuring a wide cross-section of citizens explaining the importance of voting in a variety of languages including American Sign Language.
Saying she "could not be prouder of my local league," Debbie Chandler, Co-President of the League of Women Voters of Florida, praised "the importance of collaboration and the unique design of the event which allowed one-on-one conversations between voters and candidates. It was so successful that several other chapters around the state are already considering hosting similar events before the next big election, and I am pitching the concept to the national League of Women Voters."
Sponsors of last year's nonpartisan Expo included Searcy Denney Scarola Barnhart & Shipley, PA, The Palm Beach Post, and Smith Ball Baez & Prather Florida Injury Lawyers.
