~ Jacksonville Mayor Deegan has responded to a recent letter from the Florida Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) regarding access to the city's financial systems. In a statement issued by the Mayor, he emphasized the city's commitment to protecting the integrity and safety of their network.
According to Mayor Deegan, external auditors are required to complete a standard one-page form in order to gain access to the city's sensitive and sophisticated financial systems. He also stated that the city respects DOGE's desire for access, but asks that they follow the established procedures which are protected under state statute.

The Mayor also highlighted that the City of Jacksonville already conducts self-imposed audits each year, in addition to what is mandated by Florida DOGE. This process includes granting access to Office of Policy and Budget personnel, as stated in Chapter 2025(199), Section 124 of Florida law.
Last week, Florida DOGE notified the City of Jacksonville about a site visit, which has resulted in hundreds of staff hours being spent on short notice during their annual budget review. Despite this unexpected demand on resources, Mayor Deegan's office released a statement expressing confidence in the city's financial success.
The Mayor also stressed that security should never be politicized and reiterated his commitment to protecting the city's network. With this response, it is clear that Jacksonville is taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety and integrity of their financial systems.
