Jacksonville: Mayor Deegan to Appoint Michael Fackler as General Counsel

A long ~ Mayor Donna Deegan has announced the appointment of Michael Fackler as the City of Jacksonville's next General Counsel.

Mr. Fackler is a long-time commercial litigator and partner at the local law firm of Milam Howard Nicandri & Gillam P.A. He has also served as a law clerk for the Honorable Harvey E. Schlesinger, United States District Court Judge for the Middle District of Florida, and has been honored as a "Super Lawyer" since 2016 and as part of the "Florida Legal Elite" in 2012, 2020, and 2021.

Outside of his legal career, Mr. Fackler is deeply connected to the community. He is currently a board member for the Jacksonville Area Legal Aid and Riverside Presbyterian Church Basketball League, and has served on various boards including those of the Jacksonville Historical Society and First Coast Returned Peace Corps Volunteers. He also served in the United States Peace Corps in Rybnik, Poland from 1996 to 1998.

Mayor Deegan expressed her enthusiasm for Mr. Fackler's appointment: "Michael is well respected in the legal profession and community. He brings to the table nearly two decades of legal experience, unimpeachable character, and bipartisan support."

Mr. Fackler will begin his role as Acting General Counsel on Friday, September 29th pending approval by the Qualifications Review Committee (QRC) in October and then by City Council to become permanent General Counsel. The term of Bob Rhodes, Interim General Counsel ends on Thursday September 28th.
