SUNNY ISLES BEACH, Fla. - Floridant -- Recently the Sunny Isles Beach Community Spotlight,
a government publication funded with taxpayer dollars, highlighted a student, Zahra Ronizi. No one will argue that Zara Ronizi, is an accomplished student. Unfortunately, she has also publicly expressed antisemitic sentiments on social media. She recently posted a video on her Instagram of her father tearing down an Israeli supporter's flag and refers to him as "a legend." (Taken down, but it is available upon request)

Ms. Ronizi went on to deliver an extremely divisive valedictorian speech at her graduation from Alonzo and Tracy Mourning Senior High School. Jewish parents and community members in the audience were alarmed, to say the least. School administrators claim they were unaware of the speech's content in advance, which raises concerns.

A parent who prefers to remain anonymous stated, "Our city leaders seem unable to distinguish right from wrong. Why did they choose Zahra Ronizi to represent us when she proudly shared on social media her father's "heroic" act of snatching a man's flag from behind as he stood alone against a crowd of Pro-Hamas supporters? What values does she represent? Certainly not mine. Despite survivors' families being present at the graduation, she accused Jews of genocide. We represent only 0.2% of the world population and fear history repeating itself, like the Holocaust. When the moral compass points south, cowardice may seem heroic."

Hayley Ross, candidate for School Board in District 3 had this comment, "There is no room for antisemitism in our schools! As a lifelong Zionist, I stand without Jewish families and friends. Never Again!"

Sunny Isles Beach has the 5th largest population of Jewish residents in the Miami Metropolitan Area and even has an Israeli Sister City, Netanya. How would a city with such a diverse demographic allow its taxpayer-funded publication and school to highlight individuals with such hateful rhetoric and behavior? Are they turning a blind eye or complacent with these views? Regardless, there are citizens in this community who feel targeted and would like to see further investigation and action.
