Innovations for Learning Announces Rebranding and Name Change to Chapter One

ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Innovations for Learning, a nonprofit organization known for its TutorMate and TeacherMate early literacy support programs, is changing its name to Chapter One. The company also unveiled a new visual identity and website and will soon announce additional services to further its mission of increasing reading success through high impact tutoring and on-line volunteer reading support.

According to company founder and CEO Seth Weinberger, the new name represents the company's focus on improving early literacy. "The K-2 years represent the first chapter of students' literacy experience. We help connect students with a caring adult for 1:1 reading support at the time they need it most," said Weinberger. "Our goal is to make their 'chapter one' a positive experience and to excite them and show them they can be successful, lifelong readers."

As an ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) Tier 1 evidence-based intervention, the company supports the efforts of classroom teachers with its research-based high impact tutoring program. Currently partnering with 21 districts supporting over 25,000 students in grades K-3, this unique model provides classrooms with specially trained early literacy interventionists (ELIs) who work 1:1 with students building the core phonics and fluency skills required to become successful readers. ELIs use Chapter One software to conduct tutoring sessions, which enables them to simultaneously instruct and assess student performance. The tailored focus of the model makes it affordable at scale across a school district and aligns with beginning reading standards.

In addition to high impact tutoring, Chapter One supports literacy learning in grades 1-2 for emerging readers, through an integrated online experience that connects corporate online reading volunteers with students. Using interactive technology, the tutor and student meet weekly to provide the student with valuable reading practice using stories and activities developed by Chapter One to foster fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary.
