FORT PIERCE, Fla. ~ Fort Pierce, Florida - Governor Ron DeSantis has announced the allocation of $4 million to Indian River State College through the Job Growth Grant Fund (JGGF). The funds will be used to establish advanced technology workforce development programs and construct a state-of-the-art Center of Ballistics and Emerging Technology. This center will focus on producing safety and security equipment, such as ballistic assault barriers, to protect law enforcement and military personnel.
According to Governor DeSantis, this project is expected to create over 300 new graduates with advanced manufacturing training in the next decade. He emphasized the importance of providing students with skills that can be utilized in their future careers, while also supporting law enforcement officers.
"While other parts of the nation turn their backs on the real threats our law enforcement officers face daily, in Florida, we are working alongside our state college leaders to teach students how to make products like ballistic vehicular glass that keeps our officers safe," said Governor DeSantis.

The Center for Ballistics and Emerging Technology will serve as a hub for collaboration between industry partners, law enforcement agencies, and workforce training professionals. It aims to achieve workforce education objectives in the Indian River community by offering specific training in advanced manufacturing processes. This will equip students with transferable and marketable skills upon graduation.
Florida Secretary of Commerce J. Alex Kelly expressed his support for this investment under Governor DeSantis' leadership. He believes that it will create opportunities for high-paying jobs while also supporting critical sectors such as law enforcement, military, and defense.
"Florida is dedicated to supporting these industries and today's award aids in the creation of products that help protect the men and women in law enforcement that keep our communities safe," said Secretary Kelly.
Since 2019, over $195 million has been awarded through the Job Growth Grant Fund. These strategic investments aim to strengthen communities and support workforce training across the state. Proposals are carefully reviewed by Florida Commerce and selected by Governor DeSantis to address the demands for workforce training and infrastructure needs in communities throughout the state.
