TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ~ TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - In a press release issued today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the appointment of Ana Ortega and Bobby Payne to the Florida Public Service Commission. These appointments, effective January 2, 2026, come as part of the governor's efforts to strengthen the commission and ensure its members are well-equipped to serve the people of Florida.

Ortega, who currently serves as Chief Policy Advisor to the Florida Public Service Commission, brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to her new role. She is actively involved in her community and has previously served as a Utility Regulatory Analyst for the commission. Ortega holds both a bachelor's and master's degree in public administration from Florida State University.

Joining Ortega on the commission is Bobby Payne, Owner and Sole Proprietor of Bobby Payne Consulting, LLC. Payne's extensive career in the electric industry spans nearly 40 years, during which he held various positions including Senior Project Development Representative and Manager of Plant Operations for Seminole Electric Cooperative, Inc. He also served as a member of the Florida House of Representatives for Districts 19 and 20 before retiring in 2019. Payne holds a bachelor's degree from Jacksonville University and a master's degree in business administration from Nova Southeastern University.

These appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate, but Governor DeSantis is confident that both Ortega and Payne will be valuable additions to the Florida Public Service Commission. With their diverse backgrounds and expertise in public service and energy regulation, they are well-suited to serve on this important commission.
