TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ~ TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - In a press release issued today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the appointment of John Garra and the reappointment of James "Jim" Batts, Donald Brown, and Rodney Hershberger to the Florida Building Commission.
Garra, a resident of Sunrise, has been appointed as a new member of the commission. He currently serves as the President and Architect of Square One Architecture and holds a bachelor's degree in architecture from the University of Cincinnati. Garra is also actively involved in various organizations such as the Building Owners and Managers Association and the Accessibility Professors Association.
Batts, who hails from Jacksonville Beach, has been reappointed to the commission. He is the Founder and Owner of The Batts Company and is known for his active involvement in his community. Batts is a member of the Florida Swimming Pool Association and has previously served as chair of the St. Johns County Contractors Review Board. He attended Florida State College at Jacksonville.

Donald Brown, a resident of DeFuniak Springs, has also been reappointed to the commission. Brown currently works as a Consultant for First National Insurance Agency and has previously held positions as a Florida State Representative and Walton County Commissioner. He is also a member of the Florida Hurricane Catastrophe Fund Advisory Council and holds a bachelor's degree in industrial technology from the University of West Florida.
Lastly, Rodney Hershberger from Sarasota has been reappointed to the commission as well. Hershberger serves as Chairman of PGT Innovations and is actively involved in organizations such as Argus Foundation of Sarasota and Gulf Coast Community Foundation. He was also awarded with the 2013 Outstanding Member Award from American Architectural Manufacturers Association.
These appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate before they can officially join or continue their roles on the Florida Building Commission.
