TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ~ TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - In a recent announcement, Governor Ron DeSantis shared that the State of Florida has successfully rescued over 200 Americans from the political turmoil in Haiti. This number includes 95% Floridians and other Americans who were evacuated to Florida by the Florida Division of Emergency Management (the Division).

The first state coordinated rescue flight took place on March 20 and since then, a total of 220 individuals have been safely brought back to Florida. Governor DeSantis expressed his satisfaction with the successful rescue mission, stating that when Americans are in need, Florida will always step up.

The Division's Executive Director Kevin Guthrie also praised Governor DeSantis' leadership and the collaboration between state agencies, private partners, and non-profit organizations. He credited their efforts for being able to support residents during this crisis.

Upon their return to Florida, evacuees have immediate access to a multi-agency resource center where they can receive necessary assistance. The Division ensures that all evacuees are safely transported back to their homes at no cost. So far, the resource center has provided over 350 resources including meals, water, lodging, transportation from the airport, basic health screenings, care supplies for infants and seniors, as well as services for pets.

The resource center also offers a family reunification center where loved ones can be reunited after being separated during the evacuation process. Mental health counselors and therapy dogs are also available for those in need of emotional support. Children can find comfort in the activity center while adults can use phones and charging stations provided by the Division.

In addition to ensuring Floridians are returned home safely, the Division has also assisted other Americans by providing completed Haiti Assistance forms to the U.S. Department of State. This allows them to be connected with federally coordinated flights back home.

The State of Florida's efforts in rescuing Americans from Haiti have been commendable and reflect their commitment to helping those in need. With Governor DeSantis' leadership and the dedication of the State Emergency Response Team, over 200 individuals have been brought back to their homes in Florida.
