TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ~ TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - In the wake of Hurricane Helene, Governor Ron DeSantis and First Lady Casey DeSantis have announced the activation of the Florida Disaster Fund to provide support to affected communities. The fund, which is a part of the Volunteer Florida Foundation, will aid in recovery efforts through initiatives such as Activate Hope.

As the official private fund for the state of Florida, the Florida Disaster Fund was established to assist communities during times of emergency or disaster. Working in collaboration with public and private sectors, as well as non-governmental organizations, the fund will provide resources for response and recovery activities.

Donations made to the Disaster Fund are tax-deductible and can be made online at FloridaDisasterFund.org or by mail to Volunteer Florida Foundation at 1545 Raymond Diehl Road Suite 250 in Tallahassee. Checks should be made payable to Volunteer Florida Foundation with "Florida Disaster Fund" written in the memo line.

One of the key components of this initiative is Activate Hope, which serves as the emergency response arm for Hope Florida. This program brings together resources from private sector companies, non-profits, and government agencies to assist Floridians in getting back on their feet after a disaster. Currently, Activate Hope is providing aid in areas such as food assistance, household goods, home repairs, and other necessary resources following Hurricane Helene.

Volunteer Florida is responsible for coordinating volunteerism and community service efforts throughout the state. Established in 1994 as the Florida Commission on Community Service, Volunteer Florida also administers national service programs and leads disaster recovery efforts in impacted communities.

With these efforts in place, Governor DeSantis and First Lady Casey DeSantis are working towards providing much-needed support to those affected by Hurricane Helene through various avenues such as donations and volunteerism. The activation of the Florida Disaster Fund serves as a reminder that when faced with adversity, Floridians come together to support one another.
