~ In a significant move towards preserving Florida's natural resources, Governor Ron DeSantis, Attorney General James Uthmeier, and Commissioner of Agriculture Wilton Simpson have approved the protection of over 78,000 acres of land through various conservation programs. This includes more than 76,000 acres in rural Florida as part of the Ocala-to-Osceola Wildlife Corridor Project.
The approval of these key acquisitions marks the final step in closing a major gap in the 100-mile long network of public and private lands connecting the Ocala and Osceola National Forests. This project aims to protect and preserve vital ecosystems and iconic wildlife in the state.
Governor DeSantis expressed his commitment to conservation efforts under his administration, stating that it not only supports natural resources but also benefits rural economies and secures the future of Florida. Since 2019, the state has invested over $1.4 billion in land conservation through the Florida Forever Program. This consistent funding has enabled the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to acquire more than 374,000 acres for conservation, with 90% falling within the Florida Wildlife Corridor.

He also emphasized that these actions not only protect the environment but also strengthen Florida's agricultural foundation and support rural communities.
DEP Secretary Alexis A. Lambert described the Corridor as "the backbone" of Florida's natural landscape. She expressed gratitude towards Governor DeSantis, Cabinet members, and legislators for their continued support in preserving natural Florida for future generations.
The projects approved today include support for Florida Forever, Rural & Family Lands Protection Program, and the Ocala to Osceola Wildlife Corridor Project.
