Governor Ron DeSantis and First Lady Casey DeSantis Make Awards to Top 13 Hope Florida CarePortal Churches

TAMPA, Fla. ~ TAMPA, Fla. - In a press conference held today, Governor Ron DeSantis and First Lady Casey DeSantis praised the success of the Hope Florida Initiative and recognized the top-performing churches in the program. The event also saw the awarding of grants to these churches, with two receiving $50,000 each and 11 others receiving $25,000 each through the Hope Florida Fund.

The recipients acknowledged by the Governor and First Lady were Spanish River Church, Grace Family Church, RiverLife Church, Oasis Church, Radiant Church, South Shore Community Church, Grace Bible Church of Highlands County, Idlewild Baptist Church, North River Church, Action Church, Bayside Community Church North River Campus, University Carillon United Methodist Church, and Calvary Chapel of Fort Lauderdale.

Funded by private sector donations rather than taxpayer money, the Hope Florida Fund was launched by First Lady Casey DeSantis in July 2022. Its aim is to utilize private sector generosity to support deserving local nonprofit organizations that are part of the Hope Florida initiative.

Governor Ron DeSantis emphasized the importance of incentivizing charity and philanthropy rather than replacing it with government assistance. He stated that Hope Florida brings together various sectors such as private businesses, nonprofits and faith-based communities to serve those in need while allowing government to step back for the betterment of citizens.

First Lady Casey DeSantis added that through Hope Florida's CarePortal program, churches in all 67 counties of Florida are able to address immediate needs within their communities. She expressed gratitude towards these churches for stepping up and answering the call to serve through this platform.

Hope Florida utilizes trained professionals called "Hope Navigators" who work with individuals on a personalized path towards economic independence and prosperity. This program focuses on collaboration between different sectors such as private businesses, faith-based communities, nonprofits and government entities. By bringing together these different parts of the community, Hope Florida aims to provide maximum support and uncover new opportunities for those going through difficult times. Since its launch, nearly 30,000 Floridians have reduced or eliminated their reliance on government assistance, resulting in an estimated savings of $800 million for the state over the next 10 years. The program serves a diverse range of individuals including families, veterans, single mothers, and youth aging out of foster care.

Erik Dellenback, the Governor's Liaison for Faith and Community, praised the faith institutions in Florida for their long-standing commitment to serving the most vulnerable in their communities. He also commended Governor DeSantis and First Lady Casey DeSantis for their dedication to faith and community through the Hope Florida movement.

Shevaun Harris, Secretary of the Department of Children and Families, expressed her gratitude towards Governor and First Lady DeSantis for their leadership in transforming the way families are supported. She also highlighted how the Hope Florida program has helped activate new faith-based partners and resources to assist families in overcoming barriers towards self-sufficiency and prosperity.
