FORT MYERS, Fla. - Floridant -- GMA Architects & Planners has completed design work for the new Lee Health Child Development Center at Gulf Coast Medical Center, a state-of-the-art campus that can accommodate up to 268 children.
The 17,735-square-foot early learning center is Lee Health's fourth across its network and will host infants, toddlers, pre-school and pre-kindergarten students, as well as children in the after-school program.
Located on Plantation Road in Fort Myers, the Child Development Center features a contemporary architectural design with white, pastel blue and gray tones. Perimeter tower structures punctuate the main building and are capped by pergolas. GMA Architects applied a modern-contemporary style to the porte cochere at the front entry, which has custom metal exposed trusses, a cantilevered cast-in-place monument and a whimsical touch of a statement color.
Inside, architects used natural sunlight as a primary design feature. Each classroom has multiple glazed fenestrations that brighten interior spaces while adding a touch of style. To help children better identify their classrooms, GMA Architects and Lee Health Interior Design Team created a logical floor plan with coordinating wall and floor colors. In addition to classrooms, students have access to open-air, partially covered, outdoor play areas with artificial turf.
