~ On Tuesday, June 11, 2024, Governor Ron DeSantis issued a press release announcing that flags would be flown at half-staff in honor of Pulse Remembrance Day. This day marks the eighth anniversary of the tragic shooting at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida, where forty-nine people lost their lives and fifty-three were injured.

The shooter, who claimed allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, targeted the LGBTQ and Hispanic communities in what was then considered the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history. In remembrance of the victims, their families, and all those affected by this senseless act of violence, Governor DeSantis has directed that both the United States and Florida flags be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Wednesday, June 12.
