TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ~ TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - In preparation for the impending arrival of Hurricane Milton, Governor Ron DeSantis has announced the suspension of tolls across Central Florida and West Florida, as well as Alligator Alley. This decision was made to aid in the safe and efficient evacuation of Floridians and visitors in the impacted areas.
Effective immediately at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 7, 2024, tolls will be waived for a period of seven days. Governor DeSantis stated that this move will help keep traffic moving and alleviate some of the stress for those preparing to evacuate.
According to Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Secretary Jared W. Perdue, P.E., this decision was made with the safety and well-being of motorists in mind. "The Department is committed to ensuring motorists can get where they need to go as quickly and safely as possible, especially in preparation for a major hurricane," said Perdue.
The toll suspension will include facilities operated by FDOT and Florida's Turnpike Enterprise (FTE), with toll collection being reinstated on Monday, October 14 at noon. However, this timeline may be extended depending on the evolving conditions.
