Florida: Governor Ron DeSantis Makes Two Judicial Appointments

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ~ TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Governor Ron DeSantis has made two new judicial appointments today, announcing the selection of Lauren Blocker and Michele Simonsen to serve as judges in Florida's Seventh Judicial Circuit Court and Volusia County Court, respectively.

Blocker, a resident of Ponte Vedra, brings a wealth of experience to her new role as Judge on the Seventh Judicial Circuit Court. She has been serving as a County Court Judge for St. Johns County since 2021 and previously worked as Corporate Counsel for Fidelity Information Services, LLC. Blocker holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Florida and a juris doctor from Florida Coastal School of Law. She will be filling the vacancy left by the retirement of Judge Foxman.

Simonsen, hailing from New Smyrna Beach, has been appointed to serve as Judge on the Volusia County Court. She has been an Assistant State Attorney for the Seventh Judicial Circuit since 1998 and also served as an Assistant Federal Public Defender for the Federal Public Defender's Office. Simonsen is a graduate of the University of Florida with both a bachelor's degree and juris doctor. She will be filling the vacancy created by the elevation of Judge Miller.

These appointments come at an important time for Florida's judicial system and Governor DeSantis is confident that both Blocker and Simonsen will serve with integrity and dedication in their new roles.
