TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ~ Tallahassee, FL - Governor Ron DeSantis has announced four new judicial appointments today. Lauren Sweet, from Stuart, has been appointed as a Judge on the St. Lucie County Court. Sweet brings a wealth of experience to the position, having served as an Assistant General Counsel for the School Board of St. Lucie County since 2022 and previously as an Assistant State Attorney in the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit. She holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Florida and a juris doctor from Florida Coastal School of Law. Sweet will be filling the vacancy left by Judge Nelson's resignation.
Joining her on the bench is Ryan Love, who has been appointed as a Judge on the First Judicial Circuit Court. Love has been serving as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Northern District of Florida since 2008 and previously worked as an Assistant State Attorney in the First Judicial Circuit. He holds a bachelor's degree from Florida State University and a juris doctor from Florida Coastal School of Law. Love will be filling the vacancy created by Judge Wells' resignation.

David Stevens, from Niceville, has also been appointed to serve as a Judge on the First Judicial Circuit Court. Stevens brings over two decades of legal experience to his new role, having served as Deputy Chief Assistant State Attorney in the First Judicial Circuit since 2023 and owning his own law firm prior to that. He holds a bachelor's degree from Florida State University and a juris doctor from Regent University School of Law. Stevens will be filling the vacancy created by HB 5401.
Lastly, Matthew Gordon, from Pensacola, has been appointed to serve as a Judge on the Santa Rosa County Court. Gordon has been working as an Assistant State Attorney in the First Judicial Circuit since 2006 and holds degrees from both the University of Florida and Florida State University. He will be filling another vacancy created by HB 5401.
These appointments come as a result of the enactment of HB 5401, which created vacancies in the First Judicial Circuit Court and Santa Rosa County Court. Governor DeSantis is confident that these individuals will serve with integrity and uphold the law in their new roles.
