HIALEAH, Fla. ~ HIALEAH, Fla. - Governor Ron DeSantis has announced his commitment to a historic teacher salary funding increase of $1.25 billion in the budget for Fiscal Year 2024-25. This investment is part of Florida's ongoing efforts to support and attract top educators to the state.
Since taking office in 2019, Governor DeSantis has prioritized investing in Florida's education system, with over $4 billion dedicated to teacher pay increases. As a result, the starting teacher pay has increased by nearly $10,000.
"Florida's education system is number one in the nation, and we want to make sure good educators are attracted to Florida with attractive compensation," said Governor DeSantis. "I am proud to have invested more than $4 billion for teacher pay increases since the beginning of my time in office, and I will continue to push for increased funding for Florida's teachers."
This commitment has been praised by Florida Department of Education Commissioner Manny Diaz Jr., who stated, "I want to thank Governor DeSantis for his steadfast commitment and unwavering dedication to Florida's education system throughout the years." He also noted that Florida continues to attract some of the best educators in the country, which is a testament to Governor DeSantis' support for education and efforts to raise teacher pay.
