MIAMI, Fla. ~ Miami, Fla. - In a press conference today, Governor Ron DeSantis expressed his support for two bills recently passed by the Florida Legislature that aim to safeguard Floridians from unauthorized chemical exposure and atmospheric manipulation.
During the conference, Governor DeSantis stated, "Today I was in Miami to support SB 700, which bans local governments from unilaterally adding fluoride to public drinking water. In addition to this, I also reiterated in Miami that Florida is not a testing ground for geoengineering." He went on to explain that he will be signing SB 56, which prohibits the practice of geoengineering in Florida's skies.
Senate Bill 700, also known as the Florida Farm Bill, includes a provision that prohibits local governments from adding fluoride to public drinking water without proper authorization. This legislation follows a November 2024 advisory by Florida Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo warning against community water fluoridation due to potential health risks, especially for pregnant women and children.

Senate Bill 56 repeals the state's ability to issue permits for geoengineering and weather modification. It also makes it illegal to inject, release or disperse chemicals or substances into the atmosphere with the intention of altering weather patterns or sunlight intensity. Those who violate this law could face third-degree felony charges, up to five years in prison, and fines up to $100,000.
The bill also includes important enforcement measures. Starting October 1st of this year, all publicly owned airports must report any aircraft equipped with weather modification or geoengineering equipment to the Florida Department of Transportation. Additionally, the Department of Environmental Protection will launch a public reporting portal this summer for identifying suspected violations.
These bills demonstrate Florida's commitment to protecting public health and preserving individual choice. They ensure that no government or corporation can unilaterally impose environmental or chemical risks on its citizens. Governor DeSantis emphasized that "The Free State of Florida means freedom from governments or private actors unilaterally applying chemicals or geoengineering to people or public spaces."
