MIAMI BEACH, Fla. ~ Miami Beach, Fla. - In a press conference today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced his plans to work with the Florida Legislature in order to address the issue of homelessness and ensure the safety and cleanliness of Florida's streets. This comes as bills are being introduced during Florida's Legislative Session to combat homelessness.
Governor DeSantis expressed his concern over the situation in cities like San Francisco, where homelessness, drugs, and crime have taken a toll on the quality of life and economy. He emphasized the need for policies that promote accountability and community safety, unlike those being implemented in California.
The proposal put forth by Governor DeSantis includes several measures aimed at addressing the issue of homelessness. These include prohibiting camping on city streets, sidewalks, and parks, as well as creating state enforcement tools to ensure that local governments comply with these regulations.
In addition, there will be an increase in funding for homeless shelters with a requirement for occupants to refrain from drug use and utilize workforce services. The proposal also includes an increase in funding for substance abuse and mental health treatment.

Florida Department of Law Enforcement Commissioner Mark Glass praised Governor DeSantis' leadership and stated that this legislative proposal will make all citizens safer by keeping the streets clean. He also highlighted Florida's status as a national leader under Governor DeSantis' guidance.
Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner also expressed his gratitude towards Governor DeSantis for his vision and leadership in addressing this issue. He mentioned that since implementing an ordinance against public camping last October, there has been an increase in homeless individuals utilizing available beds in shelters and receiving necessary services.
While Florida has taken steps to empower communities to enforce law and order policies, other liberal jurisdictions like California have failed to do so. These policies not only neglect accountability but also make their streets less safe. The highest homeless populations can be found in these areas.
In conclusion, Governor DeSantis' proposal aims to tackle the issue of homelessness in Florida and ensure the safety and cleanliness of its streets. With the support of the Florida Legislature, it is hoped that these measures will make a positive impact on the state's communities. To read the full proposal, click here.
