FORT PIERCE, Fla. ~ Fort Pierce, Fla. - In a press conference today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the allocation of over $14.5 million from the Florida Job Growth Grant Fund (JGGF) to support infrastructure improvements and workforce training initiatives across the state. The funding will be distributed to four entities - Indian River State College, Miami Dade College, Sebring Airport Authority, and Wakulla County - for projects that will advance key industries such as aviation, aerospace, and manufacturing.
According to Governor DeSantis, the JGGF plays a crucial role in driving economic development by providing support for critical infrastructure projects and expanding workforce training opportunities at the local level. The Secretary of Commerce J. Alex Kelly also praised Governor DeSantis' commitment to investing in infrastructure and workforce development, particularly in target sectors like manufacturing and aerospace and aviation. The four entities receiving funding through the JGGF are Indian River State College ($4 million), Miami Dade College ($4.9 million), Sebring Airport Authority ($2.1 million), and Wakulla County ($3.5 million). Each project aims to support economic growth in their respective communities by providing new opportunities for job seekers and job creators.
Indian River State College will use their $4 million award to develop the Institute for Industrial Manufacturing and Production Training, which will offer accelerated technical vocational training for production and industrial manufacturers within the college's service area. Miami Dade College's $4.9 million award will go towards creating two new aircraft mechanic programs that will allow graduates to seamlessly transition into maintenance, repair, and operations facilities with minimal additional training.
The Sebring Airport Authority will receive $2.1 million to reconstruct a roadway and resurface Webster Turn Drive, which will increase logistical efficiency in the region and benefit local businesses. Wakulla County's $3.5 million award will be used for the development and construction of two county-owned buildings to expand manufacturing opportunities within Wakulla County's Opportunity Park.
