COLUMBUS, Ohio ~ COLUMBUS, Ohio - In an effort to push for term limits on members of Congress, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was invited by the U.S. Term Limits organization to meet with legislative members of the Ohio House of Representatives and Ohio Senate today. The goal of the meeting was to encourage the passage of a resolution calling for term limits.
Governor DeSantis, who has been a vocal advocate for term limits, believes that this change is necessary in order to shift the focus of members of Congress from reelection to tangible accomplishments. "D.C. will never fix itself," he stated. "Term limits will change the incentives for members of Congress from focusing on reelection to focusing on tangible accomplishments."
The U.S. Constitution grants state legislatures the authority to propose amendments without the approval of Congress. In order to call a U.S. Term Limits Convention, two-thirds of the 50 states must pass similar resolutions. Currently, Florida is among twelve states that have passed resolutions through both chambers of its state legislature, including Alabama, Indiana, Louisiana, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Governor DeSantis' efforts to work with other states in calling for U.S. term limits highlights the important role that states play in demanding accountability from Washington D.C. This advocacy is just one aspect of his longstanding record in pushing for much-needed constitutional reforms.
For those who missed it, a press conference was held earlier this year where Governor DeSantis and other state leaders called for these constitutional reforms. A recording can be found at this link.
The push for term limits on members of Congress continues as more states join in passing resolutions or considering them within their legislative bodies. A live map tracking these efforts can be found at this link.
As Governor DeSantis travels and meets with legislators across different states to advocate for term limits on members of Congress, it is clear that this issue is gaining momentum and support. Only time will tell if the necessary two-thirds of states will pass resolutions and call for a U.S. Term Limits Convention.
