LAKE CITY, Fla. ~ Lake City, Fla. - Governor Ron DeSantis has announced a significant investment of over $122 million in funding for small county governments and rural municipalities across the state. The funds will be distributed through the Florida Department of Transportation's (FDOT) Small County Outreach Program (SCOP) and the Small County Resurfacing Assistance Program (SCRAP) for the 2024-25 fiscal year.
One-third of the total amount, approximately $40 million, will be allocated to rural communities that were impacted by hurricanes Idalia and Debby. This decision reflects the governor's commitment to supporting these areas and helping them recover from natural disasters.
Governor DeSantis stated, "Rural counties face unique infrastructure challenges, so we are ensuring they have the resources needed for long-term success. These investments will improve infrastructure and attract new businesses to Florida's rural communities."
The FDOT Secretary Jared W. Perdue, P.E., also expressed his gratitude towards Governor DeSantis and the Florida Legislature for prioritizing these funding programs that aid rural communities during times of need. He added, "FDOT is proud of the partnerships we've built with our rural county leaders and look forward to continuing to deliver for these communities for years to come."
