In his statement addressed to Brian Fienemann, Director of Real Estate Management and Development, the governor announced that flags will be flown at half-staff in honor of the brave firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
Each year, National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend is observed to pay tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting their communities. This year's national tribute will be held at the National Fallen Firefighters Monument in Emmitsburg, Maryland and will honor 140 firefighters who have lost their lives. Among them are 70 firefighters who lost their lives in 2024.
