~ On Friday, May 2, 2025, Governor Ron DeSantis issued a statement honoring National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Day. In his statement addressed to Brian Fienemann, Director of Real Estate Management and Development, the governor announced that flags will be flown at half-staff in honor of the brave firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
Each year, National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend is observed to pay tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting their communities. This year's national tribute will be held at the National Fallen Firefighters Monument in Emmitsburg, Maryland and will honor 140 firefighters who have lost their lives. Among them are 70 firefighters who lost their lives in 2024.

The event, hosted by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, will remember these courageous individuals for their heroic and selfless service. In accordance with this observance, Governor DeSantis has directed all local and state buildings, installations, and grounds throughout Florida to fly flags at half-staff from sunrise on Saturday, May 3rd until sunset on Sunday, May 4th.
This marks the 44th Annual National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend and serves as a reminder of the bravery and sacrifice of these fallen heroes. The governor urges all Floridians to join in honoring these firefighters and their families during this solemn occasion.
