~ On Thursday, July 31, 2025, the state of Florida mourned the loss of one of its most beloved residents, Terry Bollea, better known as Hulk Hogan. The legendary professional wrestler passed away at the age of 72 in his home in Tampa.

Hogan was born in Augusta, Georgia but moved to Tampa at a young age. He began his wrestling career in 1977 and quickly rose to fame after joining World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). Throughout his career, he became known for his larger-than-life personality and iconic catchphrases such as "Whatcha gonna do when Hulkamania runs wild on you?"

In recognition of his contributions to the world of professional wrestling and entertainment, Hogan was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame twice - first in 2005 and again in 2020 as a member of the New World Order. His impact on popular culture was undeniable, making him an icon for many who grew up in the 80s and 90s as well as today.

To honor Hogan's life and legacy, Governor Ron DeSantis has declared August 1, 2025 as "Hulk Hogan Day in Florida." In addition, he has directed that flags at the State Capitol in Tallahassee and all local and state buildings throughout Pinellas County be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Friday, August 1st.

Hogan's passing has left a void in the hearts of many Floridians who saw him not just as a wrestler but also as a true Floridian. His contributions to the state will always be remembered and celebrated on this special day dedicated to him.
