TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ~ TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - In recognition of National Mentoring Month, First Lady Casey DeSantis has highlighted the success of Hope Florida - A Pathway to Promise. This initiative, launched four months ago, has already connected over 500 youth aging out of foster care with mentors.

The Statewide Guardian ad Litem Office (GAL) facilitates this program, which pairs foster youth with a supportive mentor as they transition into adulthood. These mentors serve as committed and caring adults who provide guidance and support for the youth as they navigate independent living.

First Lady DeSantis expressed her belief in the power of mentoring relationships to positively impact the lives of foster children. She commended the growing number of Floridians who have stepped up to invest in these youth and provide them with well-informed guidance, encouragement, and problem-solving assistance.

He praised the commitment of volunteers who have joined this initiative under First Lady DeSantis' leadership and noted that it allows for even more support for youth aging out of foster care.

As more youth age out of Florida's foster care system, there is an increasing need for mentors. Organizations and individuals interested in becoming involved in the Hope Florida - A Pathway to Promise mentoring initiative can visit GAL's website for more information.

Hope Florida was launched by First Lady DeSantis in 2021 and has been implemented by multiple agencies including the Florida Department of Children and Families, the Florida Department of Elder Affairs, the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice, the Agency for Persons with Disabilities, the Florida Department of Veterans' Affairs, and GAL. This initiative utilizes Hope Navigators to guide Floridians on an individualized path to prosperity and economic self-sufficiency.

Hope Navigators work to break down traditional community silos and maximize support by fostering collaboration between the private sector, faith-based community, nonprofits, and government entities. They help individuals identify their unique barriers to prosperity, set long-term goals, and develop a strategic plan. Additionally, they ensure that all sectors of the community have a "seat at the table" to be part of the solution.

In addition to providing support for individuals, Hope Navigators also connect community members with volunteer and mentorship opportunities. This includes Florida seniors who wish to help their neighbors.

Through Hope Florida - A Pathway to Promise, First Lady DeSantis and GAL are making a positive impact on the lives of foster youth in Florida. Their efforts have brought together various sectors of the community to provide much-needed support and guidance for these vulnerable youth as they transition into adulthood.
