Providing Over 1,000 Families with Disabilities and Autism Support Through Innovative Sensory Trailer
CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Floridant -- Governor Ron DeSantis and First Lady Casey DeSantis awarded Family Initiative $50,000 providing a safe space and resources with their first-of-its-kind sensory trailer for families and children diagnosed with ASD following Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Family Initiative has supported over 1,000 affected families of children with disabilities and Autism during the state's recovery efforts.
Family Initiative is committed to serving children, families, and individuals diagnosed with ASD throughout the state of Florida. This funding will allow the organization to maintain and expand essential services, autism support, and family stabilization programs during the recovery process.
"We are immensely grateful to Governor DeSantis, First Lady DeSantis, and the Florida Disaster Fund for their invaluable support," said David Brown, Co-Founder of Family Initiative. "This funding will enhance our relief efforts and ensure that we can continue providing critical resources to families as they work to rebuild their lives following Hurricanes Helene and Milton."

Family Initiative's Sensory Trailer is a crucial resource tailored to provide children diagnosed with ASD with a calming environment during emergencies. Inside, the trailer is thoughtfully equipped with bean bag cushions, games, sensory toys, air conditioning, and WIFI, all overseen by certified clinicians trained to support special needs families. Each deployment includes essential supplies such as a generator, propane tanks, gas tanks, water, and over 200 sensory bags. While children enjoy a safe space to receive support, parents are allowed to take a much-needed respite and connect with vital recovery resources, like FEMA and additional agencies, ensuring that the entire family is supported during challenging times.
