SANIBEL ISLAND, Fla. - Floridant -- Edison National Bank/Bank of the Islands is serving as the Presenting Corporate Sponsor and partnering with Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation (SCCF) to host a Coastal Cleanup event on Saturday, Sept. 21.
Bank of the Islands will also be bringing a large team of volunteers to help clean beaches on Sanibel and Captiva. In total, more than 400 volunteers will be collecting and removing trash and fishing debris from the local island beaches. Last year, these local efforts cleared 1,180 pounds of trash and debris off beaches and shorelines.
"This is such an important annual event for our banking family," said Robbie Roepstorff, president of Edison National Bank/Bank of the Islands. "It means so much to all our staff to work together as we give back to our Lee County community. We look forward to having a great time for a great cause once again this year!"
The local Coastal Cleanup efforts are coordinated by SCCF and Keep Lee County Beautiful as part of the Ocean Conservancy's International Coastal Cleanup. According to the Ocean Conservancy, 18 million volunteers have cleaned more than 350,000 miles of shoreline collecting in excess of 380 million pounds of trash in the 30+ years of this international effort.
