FORT MYERS, Fla. - Floridant -- Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida (SWFL) has received a $20,000 investment from Comcast NBCUniversal Foundation to expand Digital Literacy Training offered through Goodwill's Community Resource Centers (CRCs).
Goodwill SWFL has a strong history of providing computer, internet, and email training, but in early 2025 they expanded their offerings to include Artificial Intelligence (AI) training. Google AI Essentials is a course designed by Google experts to teach beginners how to use generative AI tools.
"This program is perfect for those with no prior technical experience and helps learners stay ahead of the curve in AI capabilities and productivity," states Angela Hemstreet, Goodwill SWFL's Director of Employment Services. "In December 2025, we introduced a second course, AI Prompting Essentials, a more advanced follow-up to AI Essentials. We're thrilled to offer both courses to our digital literacy learners and deeply grateful to Comcast for its generous support of these timely programs."
Goodwill's digital skills classes are free and open to the public at all Southwest Florida CRC locations. Class schedules and locations can be found at https://goodwillswfl.org/services/community-resource-centers/

As employers continue to face worker shortages, many job seekers still lack the digital skills needed to compete for today's opportunities. Goodwill's training helps to bridge that gap. By gaining essential digital literacy, participants can pursue higher‑paying jobs, increase their independence, and strengthen their ability to support themselves and their families.
Comcast's investment is part of a broader effort to help close the digital divide across Florida. The company recently announced $1 million in grants to nonprofit organizations statewide, reinforcing its commitment to expanding opportunity and driving meaningful community impact.
This support reflects Comcast's commitment to building a more connected future. Its financial gift to Goodwill underscores a shared dedication to strengthening Southwest Florida communities.
Goodwill SWFL provides pathways to employment for people facing barriers—including individuals with disabilities, veterans and military families, young adults, older workers, and people reentering the workforce. Through education, career training, and meaningful work, Goodwill empowers individuals and transforms generations.
