City of Jacksonville to Virtually Host the 35th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast Presented by Florida Blue

The City of Jacksonville invites the community to celebrate the life, legacy and service of Martin Luther King, Jr. at the 35th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast presented by Florida Blue. This year's event will be free and open to the public via a virtual livestream.

The program will be streamed live on Friday, Jan. 14, 2022. The YouTube livestream pre-show will begin at 8 a.m. and the live program will begin at 8:30 a.m. Those interested in virtually attending this free event should pre-register to secure their digital ticket.

The virtual event will feature Mayor Lenny Curry and newly announced keynote speaker, Bonnie St. John. Despite having her right leg amputated at age five, St. John became the first African-American ever to win medals in Winter Olympic competition, taking home a silver and two bronze medals at the 1984 Paralympics in Austria. Today, she is a best-selling author, keynote speaker, television and radio personality, business owner, and Fortune 500 leadership consultant. The program will be hosted by Anthony Austin from First Coast News and Dawn Lopez from Action News Jax.

The program will also recognize the award recipients of this year's Tomorrow's Leaders presented by VyStar Credit Union. Tomorrow's Leaders presented by VyStar Credit Union is a component of the Breakfast that recognizes and awards young students in our community who exemplify the philosophies of Dr. King through leadership, community volunteerism and civic responsibility.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said "If I cannot do great things, I can do small things in a great way." This year, students submitted essays sharing about times in their lives where they did something small in a great way. The City of Jacksonville is humbled to award these deserving elementary, middle and high school students.

The 2022 Tomorrow's Leaders presented by VyStar Credit Union winners are:
  • Elementary First Place: Brooklyn Reaves, 5th Grade, Biscayne Elementary School
  • Middle School First Place: Kinley Nelson, 6th Grade, Riverside Presbyterian Day School
  • High School First Place: Aria Brown, 10th Grade, Samuel W. Wolfson High School
  • Elementary Runner-Up: Lenord Simmons, 5th Grade, Riverside Presbyterian Day School
  • Middle School Runner-Up: Candler Lott, 6th Grade, Riverside Presbyterian Day School
  • High School Runner-Up: Erma Browne, 12th Grade, Homeschool
