Pegeen expands its Nutcracker Costume Collection for 2026, led by its show-stopping Mother Ginger
ORLANDO, Fla. - Floridant -- Pegeen, the American design house known for its custom childrenswear and theatrical costumes, is expanding its Nutcracker Costume Collection for the 2026 season, with new designs and custom options.
At the center of the collection is Pegeen's spectacular Mother Ginger costume—a massive, stage-filling design created to deliver the unforgettable entrance audiences expect from one of The Nutcracker's most beloved characters. Mother Ginger is designed and built for the individual ballet company, with custom colors, fabrics, decorative details and coordinating Polichinelle costumes available to create a complete visual moment on stage.
Mother Ginger should be one of those moments when the audience immediately reacts. She is enormous, theatrical and fun, and the children emerging from beneath her skirt should make the entire scene come alive.
Pegeen's expanding Nutcracker Costume Collection includes custom designs for Mother Ginger and her Polichinelles, Clara, party children, boys' costumes and other specialty roles. Ballet companies can select from existing Pegeen designs or work with the company to customize colors, fabrics and details to coordinate with their own sets, choreography and artistic vision.

Unlike mass-produced theatrical costumes, Pegeen's costumes are created with the same attention to construction, fit and detail that the company has brought to its special-occasion clothing for more than four decades. The company's experience designing for children is especially important in The Nutcracker, where costumes must not only look beautiful from the audience but also allow young performers to move, dance and perform comfortably on stage.
Mother Ginger presents an entirely different engineering and design challenge. The oversized costume must create the illusion of an enormous character while accommodating the performer and allowing the Polichinelles to make their famous entrance from beneath the skirt. Pegeen's Mother Ginger designs combine theatrical scale, costume construction and practical stage considerations to create a centerpiece that can become a signature element of a ballet company's annual production.
Pegeen is currently accepting a limited number of Nutcracker Costume projects for the 2026 season. Because many of the company's costumes are made specifically for each ballet company and production, early ordering is strongly encouraged, particularly for large-scale projects such as Mother Ginger.
