SARASOTA, Fla. - Floridant -- Bullying in youth sports is a major problem that can have lifelong consequences. Bullying takes many forms and can include physical violence, verbal abuse, social exclusion, and psychological manipulation. Unfortunately, the effects of bullying on the victim's physical and mental health can be long-lasting. Victims of bullying suffer from low self-esteem, depression, and anxiety.

In the Sarasota area, there are several youth sports organizations that are actively combating bullying.
