Bank's early financing helped make Windhorst Commons affordable housing possible

TAMPA, Fla. - Floridant -- Several staff members of American Momentum Bank (AMB) volunteered with Habitat for Humanity of Tampa Bay Hillsborough on the Windhorst Commons affordable housing build in Brandon on Dec. 2. The bank's involvement in the project extends beyond volunteering — American Momentum Bank provided key financing to Habitat for Humanity of Tampa Bay Hillsborough to purchase the land for Windhorst Commons in 2021, helping lay the foundation for this hurricane-resilient community.

Windhorst Commons, located at 205 W. Windhorst Road, will feature 23 new hurricane-resilient homes aimed at providing safe, affordable housing for families earning at or below 80 percent of the area median income. The community addresses both the regional affordable housing shortage and increased vulnerability to storms by incorporating resilient construction elements, such as concrete block walls and hurricane shutters.

"Our team was honored to volunteer on this meaningful project," said Diane McKelvey, Vice President/Relationship Manager at American Momentum Bank in Tampa, who participated in the build. "Knowing that our bank's early support helped secure the land for Windhorst Commons makes our work here even more significant."

Volunteers from the bank's commercial banking group, including Tampa Bay Market President Porter Smith, joined Habitat for Humanity staff and other community supporters to work on construction tasks during the day.

Habitat for Humanity of Tampa Bay Hillsborough is a local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International that brings people together to build homes, communities and hope for families in need of decent, affordable housing throughout the region. Since 1987, the organization has partnered with families and community volunteers to build or renovate more than 650 homes.

"Seeing our colleagues in action alongside Habitat's construction team and dedicated volunteers shows the power of community partnership," McKelvey said.
