WASHINGTON, Nov. 13, 2024 ~ The American Land Title Association (ALTA) Good Deeds Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization founded by ALTA, has recently announced the awarding of $21,000 in emergency grants to assist with the aftermath of Hurricanes Helene and Milton. As the national trade association of the land title insurance industry, ALTA is dedicated to supporting local communities in times of need.
The Foundation was able to provide these grants through a matching fund campaign held during ALTA ONE, the organization's largest annual event. This year's event took place in Orlando, Florida, immediately following Hurricane Milton in October. The Foundation Board saw this as an opportunity to further support the host city and its residents who were affected by the hurricane.
Out of the total amount awarded, $7,500 each was granted to two charities: the Florida Disaster Fund and Metropolitan Ministries. Hurricane Milton made landfall near Siesta Key, Florida on October 9th as one of the most intense Atlantic hurricanes ever recorded over the Gulf of Mexico. The Florida Disaster Fund is a private fund established to assist neighborhoods in times of emergency. Metropolitan Ministries is also providing aid to those affected by Hurricane Milton by offering hot meals, clothing, financial assistance and housing support.

In addition to these grants, $6,000 was awarded to the United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County in North Carolina following Hurricane Helene. This Category 4 hurricane swept ashore on September 26th and caused widespread destruction as it moved northward through several states including Tennessee, Georgia, Virginia, South Carolina and North Carolina. The United Way is working closely with local government and emergency operations centers to provide resources and support for those seeking assistance.
According to ALTA CEO Diane Tomb, "The impact of these two powerful storms on the lives of so many is heartbreaking." She also expressed her hope that these emergency grants from the ALTA Good Deeds Foundation will offer some immediate support to those affected. The Foundation's Board Chair, Mary O'Donnell, president and CEO of Westcor Land Title Insurance Co. in Maitland, Florida, added that the generous contributions of ALTA members have enabled them to make a meaningful impact and provide vital assistance to help these communities rebuild.
Since October 2020, the ALTA Good Deeds Foundation has awarded a total of $1,122,000 in grants to 192 local nonprofits across the United States. These grants are aimed at providing basic needs such as food, water, housing and other necessities during times of emergency.
As the nation continues to recover from the devastation caused by Hurricanes Helene and Milton, the ALTA Good Deeds Foundation remains committed to supporting local communities and providing aid where it is needed most.
